The Sweet Smells of Aromatherapy

Smells and scents influence all the aspects of our life. They play an important part in important facets of everyday living such as food, hygiene, clothing, and so forth. In fact, there is an art that deals with the impact of strong scents and smells on our moods. This art is more popularly known as Aromatherapy. It has been practiced as far back as a few thousand years ago. Ancient Egyptian frescoes relate how ancient Egyptians used Aromatherapy to calm their senses and to add some spice into their lifestyle.

Aromatherapy was also popular during the Medieval Ages. It has been reputed that the Crusaders used a combination of myrrh and frankincense to keep their tired troops in an excited state of constant preparedness. This tactic was also reputedly used by Napoleon to maintain the alertness of the French army. There are other records of princes of generals who have utilized this art to win battles or to scare away the opposition.

A recent Animal Planet program highlighted the influence of Aromatherapy on the animal kingdom. In this program, the producers listed out ten animals with the vilest scent in the entire animal kingdom. The skunk proved to be the smelliest critter in the whole world. Anyway, to return to the subject of Aromatherapy, bad smells are also a vital part of the art of scents and smells. Similar to the concept of the yin and yang that balances the forces in nature; both good and bad scents need to be studied in order to determine a scent that has the most balanced impact on a person.

The battered and stressed out population of today?s modern era consider Aromatherapy as their lifeblood. Stress and worries have increased along with the material comforts that have been developed through technology. Most people do not have the inclination or the time to indulge in the old fashioned methods of relaxation. Aromatherapy provides people these days with a simple and economical solution for stress.

Essential Oil Warnings

Before you purchase essential oils, you might want to know some important facts to guide you.

Modern scientific evidences have proven that essential oils have both emotional and medical benefits. Through scientific research and greater awareness, we have started to appreciate nature’s blessings.

Aromatherapy is an example of a healing method once considered an alternative therapy that has since found its way into mainstream medicine. Most of us are not even aware that we are already practicing aromatherapy in our daily existence. When we stroll through a garden full of herbs and flowers or when we light a scented candle while taking a bath, we are already practicing aromatherapy. Almost all of our bath products contain some essential oils.

Nowadays, this practice is quite popular owing to its availability and ease of use, not to mention its effectiveness.

The essential oils used in aromatherapy can either be used alone or in pairs to make a desired effect. Prior to their use, we should know the effects of these oils on the body and how they really work.

These essential oils can be found in various plant parts such as twigs, leaves, flowers and bark, and even in the fruit rind. Basil is found in the leaves, sandalwood is extracted from wood, while rose comes from flowers.

The methods used for the extraction of these essential oils are both time-consuming and costly. The whole procedure requires a high level of expertise. For instance, to produce just four to five teaspoons of oil, we need around two hundred and twenty pounds of roses.

Pure essential oils are very expensive, based on the amount of plant material required to produce them, yet they are so highly concentrated and effective that just a few drops will give you your desired effect.

Synthetic oils may be purchased at a more affordable price, but they are devoid of the healing efficacy of natural oils.

So keep this in mind before you purchase essential oils.

10 Easy and Natural Ways to Get Rid of Acne

Are you looking for acne solutions that really work? The good news is, whether you’re a teenager or an adult suffering from acne, you don’t have to live with it. Here you can find 10 super easy and effective ways to get rid of acne.

1. Do not pick, press or rub your pimples. These actions actually increase the sebum production and rupture the membranes below your skin. The infection and sebum will spread underneath your skin and cause more pimples. Also, you risk increasing the chances of leaving scars on your face.

2. Wash your face twice a day using a mild soup. It is even better if you can buy sulfur-based soap especially for acne. If your skin is too oily, use a soap with benzoyl peroxide. Do not use rough sponges, brushes, or anything similar on your face. You shouldn’t, however, over-wash your face because it will actually stimulate your sebaceous glands to produce more sebum which will increase your acne.

3. Check if it is because of the food. For many people, food allergy can cause very serious acne condition. You should avoid eating too much oily and spicy food. Recent studies have shown that acne can also be caused by milk which contains hormones as well as seafood with relatively high levels of iodine. If possible, cut down on those foods. Other foods you may consider avoiding are: sugar, dairy products, deep-fried food, meat, nut butters, etc. On the other hand, it is believed that green vegetables, vegetable fuices and foods rich in zinc can help alleviate acne condition.

4. Drink more water every day. “Eight glasses of water a day can keep acne away.” says Jennifer Thoden, a respected acne expert. The reason is that water can carry waste material out of our body and it really helps heal and prevent acne flare-ups.

5. Do not wear makeup if possible. Makeup products can clog your pores, cause more blackheads and pimples. If you have to wear makeup, make sure it is water-based. Be sure to clean your makeup brushes regularly and cleanse your skin before you sleep.

6. Do not use oily products. Avoid products such as hair pomades, intense oil-based facial moisturizers, and oily cleansers.

7. Keep your face clean. Do not rest your chin on your hands or constantly touch your face. Regular shampoo your hair and keep it off your face, especially when you sleep.

8. Exercise moderately as it helps in blood circulation and eliminataion of toxins.

9. Stay stress-free. Studies have shown that stress not only worsens acne flare-up, it also worsens the overall skin condition. Talk to your friends, listen to your favorite music, or take a walk in the park. There are many things you can do to be stree free.

10. Get Sunshine and fresh air. Sunshine stimulates vitamin D in the body, an essential vitamin for healthy skin. Fresh air and sunshine can also reduce stress (tip #9) and increase oxygen to the skin. Don’t get burnt in the sun though. Burnt and heavily tanned skin forms a layer on the skin that doesn’t exfoliate quickly enough and can lead to blocked pores.

1.
One of the first ways that you can be successful in getting rid of acne is to engage in a diet that benefits the skin, as well as your health in general. Organic foods have recently started to gain in popularity and for a very good reason. These particular foods are not processed. Furthermore, when these foods are cultivated, harmful chemicals that can prove to be toxic to your overall health, as well as the health of your skin are not used.

The second way that you can get rid of acne is by ensuring that you consume ten to twelve glasses of water a day. Each of these glasses should be at least eight ounces. The more water that moves through your body, the more clean and pure the inside of the body will be.

When this happens, that purification will actually spread to the outside, or the skin. This means that when impurities invade the pores of the skin, it is highly likely that the water that you have consumed will play a vital role in quickly eliminating this obstruction. If you find that it is difficult sorting through the ingredients on everything that you eat or drink in order to maximize your exposure to these vitamins, you can purchase supplements.

Many elect to simply take a multivitamin every single day. Then, there are some that purchase each of these vitamins and then rotate days on taking them. However, you decide to do it, it is important to just do it! You are sure to see immediate results when it comes to how clean and healthy your skin is!

4.
When it comes to getting rid of acne, many individuals are turning towards natural herbs. There are a number of herbs that have been found to assist in acne complications. Red Clover is an especially popular herb because of the fact that it works to purify the blood and remove toxins from the body. Then, you have other herbal remedies such as Dandelion Root, and Alfalfa. There are even Chinese Herbs like Yang Ming and Lung Heat that can prove to be beneficial.

5.
If you have a severe case of acne, and nothing else that you have tried is successful when getting rid of it, you should consider setting up an appointment with a dermatologist.
